Isolde Varela-Ribeiro is a marine nutritionist and certified Portuguese culinary ethnographer with a Master’s in Sustainable Seafood Systems from the University of Algarve. She spent 12 years documenting artisanal fishing practices across the Minho and Alentejo coasts, collaborating with local cooperatives to develop low-impact, nutrient-dense seafood meal frameworks. Her work bridges traditional Portuguese preservation techniques—like vinho verde–cured mackerel and alga-infused bacalhau—with modern nutritional science.
